Academic Success Habits and Practices

Create a Study Plan

A study plan is an organized schedule outlining study times and learning goals. Just like with work or school schedules, college students should develop a schedule that sets aside dedicated time each week for studying. This schedule should include dates of quizzes, tests, and exams, as well as deadlines for papers and projects.

Study Smart Before Exam

Many college students feel stressed and overwhelmed when a test or exam is approaching. Following our study plan and time-management tips should help you feel more prepared in the lead-up to an exam.

Take Effective Notes

Many college classes involve lectures from professors and discussions among classmates. Taking notes during these lectures and discussions is an important part of the learning process.

Research has shown that note-taking improves students’ learning. Here are a few of the ways note-taking enhances your learning:

Manage your Stress

College is a time of significant transition and discovery. This can be fun and exciting, but also stressful. Whether you’re completing an online or on-campus program, devoting your time and energy to learning is a complex process. You will have to learn how to balance classes and studying with work, extracurricular activities, and social obligations.

Use Test-taking Strategies On Exam Day

Exam day has come, and although you are well-prepared, you might still feel a bit anxious. Don’t worry. It’s perfectly normal for students to feel some stress when it comes to test-taking, even if they have studied well and know the material.

The following tips will guide you through exam prep and the exam itself.
