On 18 September 2026, a team of five Book of Life (BOL) Community Health Workers conducted a combined health and evangelism outreach at Geremu Community Centre, focused on blood pressure (BP) awareness, monitoring, healthy living education, and Gospel sharing. The team held BP education sessions and invited community members to be screened, though overall attendance was below 50 people and fewer than 30 individuals actually underwent screening. Of those screened, 10 were identified with newly elevated or high blood pressure and were advised to adopt healthier lifestyle practices, continue monitoring, and seek further medical attention where necessary. Gospel sharing and spiritual encouragement were provided alongside the health activities, and despite the modest turnout, attendees appreciated the visit and responded positively to the combined health-and-faith approach.
The team faced several challenges, including low community turnout, limited interest in BP screening among some attendees, a delayed start due to people arriving late, insufficient advance mobilisation, and a continuing need for more practical field experience among the CHWs. These experiences led to key observations: that pre-event community mobilisation is critical to good attendance, that some residents need more encouragement to accept screening, that punctual starts depend on prior communication, that CHWs still need more hands-on practice to build confidence and coordination, and that pairing health education with evangelism effectively addresses both physical and spiritual needs.
Based on these lessons, the report recommends mobilising communities several days ahead of future outreaches rather than relying on same-day announcements, using megaphones or mobile speakers to raise awareness beforehand, involving village heads and other local leaders to build trust and boost attendance, continuing practical training for CHWs in BP measurement, mobilisation, and communication, encouraging those with elevated readings to seek repeat checks or facility follow-up, and agreeing on start times with community leaders to reduce delays. Overall, the outreach successfully delivered BP screening and Gospel sharing to the Geremu community, gave the CHW team valuable field experience, and generated clear, actionable lessons for improving turnout and effectiveness in future HDPTC–BOL outreaches.
